Overcoming Imposter Syndrome: Embracing Your Strengths

Hello beautiful! Today I’m going to talk about something that I struggle with every now and again, and I thought you might too, since we’re all human and brains can suck ass sometimes.

Imposter syndrome is one of those sneaky things that can creep in when we least expect it. It’s that ugly, nagging voice that whispers, “Who do you think you are?” or “You don’t deserve to be here.”
We’ve all been there—doubting our skills, second-guessing our decisions, and wondering if we’re somehow faking our way through life. But let’s get real for a second: You’re not an imposter, the fact that you might be worrying that you are negates that fact already. You care so deeply about your field that you want to make sure you’re doing it justice – a sign that you are the real deal and not an imposter! Anyway, read on if you want to know some of the things that I do in order to kick Imposter Syndrome to the curb!

What is Imposter Syndrome?

Imposter syndrome is the persistent feeling that you’re not as competent or as successful as others perceive you to be. Despite evidence of your achievements, you might feel like a fraud, always waiting for the moment someone calls you out. This is especially common among high-achievers and women who are navigating new roles or industries.

But here’s the thing—imposter syndrome is a liar. The more you listen to it, the more you start to downplay your strengths, talents, and previous achievements. And we don’t have time for that!
You’ve worked hard to get to where you are, and you’re deserving of every opportunity that comes your way. Note to self: read that again. and again. once more now.

How to Start Embracing Your Strengths

  1. Recognize the LieCall It Out
The first step to overcoming imposter syndrome is to recognize it for what it is: a mindset, not a fact. Start paying attention to when those negative thoughts creep in. Once you see it for the falsehood that it is, you can begin to challenge it.
  2. Own Your SuccessLook at Your Receipts
Whether it’s landing a new client, getting a promotion, or simply finishing a tough project—own it. Your success is not a fluke. Write down your wins, big or small, and remind yourself of the hard work, dedication, and skills it took to get there. Look at those “receipts,” as often as you need to.
  3. Stop Comparing
It’s easy to fall into the comparison trap, especially in the age of social media. But comparing your journey to someone else’s is a quick way to feel “less than.” Instead, focus on your unique path and celebrate your milestones. There’s room for everyone to shine. Look at where you started and where you are now. Sometimes I get so caught up in my day to day that I end up taking for granted where I am. That’s when I pull out the pictures and my old journals of when my wife and I were living in a trailer, complete with mousey friends, and recognize just how far I’ve come in my self-healing and self-growth journey.
  4. Ask for Support
Don’t be afraid to lean on your community when imposter syndrome gets heavy. Whether it’s a mentor, friend, or even a supportive Facebook group (like your favorite witchy community 😉), sometimes you just need to hear from others how amazing you are.
  5. Practice Self-Compassion
Be kind to yourself. You’re not perfect, and guess what? No one is. Allow yourself to make mistakes, learn from them, and keep moving forward. Growth happens when we step outside of our comfort zones and trust ourselves.

Affirmations for Empowerment

  • “I am capable, and I belong here.”
  • “I honor my strengths and my unique path.”
  • “My journey is unfolding perfectly.”

Final Thoughts

The next time imposter syndrome tries to dim your light, remind yourself that you are worthy, capable, and deserving of all the good things in your life. Embracing your strengths is about more than just knowing your worth—it’s about living it every day.

You’ve got this, babe. ✨

Love you, be well
